FDPIR Sharing Gallery: Videos

This gallery contains video resources such as cooking demonstrations from government agencies, non-profits, and ITOs. These videos can be used as part of a larger training or presentation or to provide inspiration and ideas to FDPIR program participants.

Cooking Videos
Oklahoma Tribal Engagement Partners (OKTEP)
Oklahoma Tribal Engagement Partners is a SNAP-Ed Implementing Agency that partners with tribal nations, organizations and agencies to extend culturally relevant programming to youth and families. Cooking videos are filmed from above and edited to be 2-5 minutes. Each recipe is designed to include FDPIR foods and highlights one or more ingredients as traditional foods.

The cooking videos are part of a larger project with tribal partners that include recipe cards, traditional food descriptions with traditional language and handouts covering storage and preparation instructions. New videos are added monthly. For project materials, email teresajackson@oktep.com.

Cooking Matters

Indigenous Meals with Chef Francisco Alegria
Cooking Matters
Chef Francisco, from the Menominee Indian Reservation in Wisconsin, joined a Cooking Matters Facebook Live event to discuss and demonstrate shopping for and preparing indigenous meals using traditional methods and cooking equipment. Chef Francisco incorporates a number of FDPIR Food Package items and includes helpful kitchen tips throughout. Recipes highlight wild rice tortillas, bison, butternut squash, dried fruit and nuts, and even white pine and maple syrup for tea! This Facebook Live event is about 45 minutes long with informative discussions and stories around indigenous people and food traditions.

Inter-Tribal Council of Michigan
The Inter-Tribal Council of Michigan partnered with the Walmart Foundation Healthy Native Foods Project and the Michigan Health Endowment Fund to produce a series of cooking videos featuring recipes that highlight traditional foods found in the FDPIR food package. Be sure to check out the Hominy Corn Soup!

Learn to cook Chicken Casserole with David Halquist, Jr. of the Pokagon Tribe in Michigan. This cooking demonstration features a recipe from the Harvest of Recipes with USDA Foods cookbook and all ingredients used can be found in the FDPIR food package.
