Since 2008, FNS has awarded funding each fiscal year for nutrition education projects through the Food Distribution Program Nutrition Education (FDPNE) competitive grant program.
After receiving a 16-fold increase ($250,000 to $4M) in annual appropriations for nutrition education funding and consulting with Tribal Leaders, effective FY 2023, the FDPNE competitive grant program will be discontinued.
Tribes and State agencies are encouraged to request funds for nutrition education activities – including those previously funded through FDPNE – via the process outlined for FDPIR Administrative Funds for Nutrition Education. This non-competitive process requires minimal paperwork and offers more flexibility for nutrition education programming.
The SNAP Education Plan Guidance is the basis for development of FDPNE project requirements.
