SNAP National Accuracy Clearinghouse (NAC)

The SNAP National Accuracy Clearinghouse (NAC) is an innovative technology solution designed to prevent Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) participants from receiving benefits in multiple states. All SNAP state agencies are working toward nationwide implementation of the NAC, an interstate data matching system. The NAC's primary goal is to enhance program integrity, reduce improper payments, increase customer experience and ensure fair and accurate distribution of SNAP benefits to eligible recipients across state lines.

Commitment to Security and Program Integrity

FNS is fully committed to the successful nationwide implementation of the NAC. FNS has ensured that the NAC uses advanced security measures to protect the personally identifiable information of SNAP participants. FNS also has built in safeguards to ensure households receive benefits for which they are eligible and are not incorrectly removed from the program.

First States on Board

Iowa and Montana lead the way as the first two states to implement the NAC system on Feb. 5, 2024.

Background

The NAC was established as a result of the 2018 Farm Bill, which mandated the Secretary of Agriculture to create a system to prevent the issuance of SNAP benefits to an individual by multiple state agencies simultaneously. In response, FNS passed an interim final rule, requiring state agencies to participate in the NAC and take appropriate action based on indications from the NAC that an individual may already be receiving SNAP benefits from another state agency.
