Resource | Research | Policy Analysis Expunging Food Stamp EBT Benefits: A Case Study of the Elderly in the Three States

This analysis explores patterns of permanent benefit removal in Texas, Arizona, and Wisconsin, three states where EBT is the primary method of benefit distribution, but where there are low percentages of elderly. The findings suggest that a relatively small number of food stamp participants do not access their benefits for extended periods.

Resource | Notices Summer Food Service Program for Children Program Reimbursement for 2003

This notice informs the public of the annual adjustments to the reimbursement rates for meals served in the Summer Food Service Program for Children (SFSP). These adjustments reflect changes in the Consumer Price Index and are required by the statute governing the Program. In addition, further adjustments are made to these rates to reflect the higher costs of providing meals in the States of Alaska and Hawaii, as authorized by the William F. Goodling Child Nutrition Reauthorization Act of 1998.

This notice announces the Food and Nutrition Service's intent to continue to provide processors with an opportunity to participate in a demonstration project to test program changes in the State processing program. In the demonstration project, selected processors will be allowed to substitute donated beef and pork supplied by the Department of Agriculture (the Department, or USDA) with commercial beef and pork.

Resource | Research | Payment Accuracy and Program Integrity Survey of the Public Health Nutrition Workforce 1999-2000

The Association of State and Territorial Public Health Nutrition Directors, with support from a cooperative agreement with USDA, conducted a census of the professional and paraprofessional public health nutrition workforce in the states and territories. ASTPHND has conducted periodic profiles of the public health nutrition workforce since 1985. Members of ASTPHND in their respective states and territories conducted the census reported in this paper during 1999-2000. Prior to this, ASTPHND's last survey was conducted in 1994.

On average, about 17.3 million people living in 7.5 million households received food stamps in the United States each month in FY 2001. Food stamp households are a diverse group. Because food stamps are available to most low-income households with few resources, regardless of age, disability status, or family structure, recipients represent a broad cross-section of the nation's poor. This report provides summary information about the demographic and economic circumstances of food stamp households.
