The Department of Defense Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program allows schools to use their USDA Foods entitlement dollars to buy fresh produce. The program, operated by DoD’s Defense Logistics Agency, began in SY 1994-95 as a pilot in eight states. As of 2013, schools in 46 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Guam participate; schools are anticipated to receive more than $100 million worth of produce through the program during SY 2012-13.
Appendix E: Direct Certification Grants Program Proposal Response Guidance. The purpose of the Direct Certification Grants Program Proposal Response Guidance is to increase the consistency and understanding of program planning prior to grant award.

Institutions can now receive cash reimbursements from the USDA for nutritious snacks served to children through age 18 if the children are participating in afterschool care programs

USDA distributes USDA Foods to food banks, soup kitchens, disaster feeding organizations, Indian Tribal Organizations, charitable institutions and other feeding organizations, helping families stretch their food budgets and ensuring that all Americans have healthy foods within reach.
Letter to Provider -- To qualify for tier I reimbursement, or if you wish to receive reimbursement for meals served to your own children under the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), you must complete, sign and return the enclosed Meal Benefit Form to us.
