Supporting Indigenous Food Sovereignty through Farm to School

FNS is partnering with the Intertribal Agriculture Council (IAC) to conduct crucial dialogues with American Indian/Alaskan Native youth, parents, and producers on traditional foodways and farm to school. The cooperative agreement will develop findings on how FNS can better support Indigenous Food Sovereignty through farm to school.

Project Goal

Empower Native youth, communities, and producers to find linkages between the school food environment and Indigenous foodways and identify opportunities to support Indigenous Food Sovereignty through farm to school.

Activities

IAC and NFSN will facilitate eight in-person and virtual roundtable discussions with Native youth and producers. The IAC will analyze and report findings throughout the project and share final insights and recommendations at IAC’s December 2026 Annual Conference.

Key Milestones

All events will have a farm to school roundtable discussion.
