In cooperation with FNS, the National Farm to School Network (NFSN), will create and launch Fundamentals of Farm to School for Government Agencies (Fundamentals). Fundamentals will develop and implement a training program and resources for people working in statewide institutional settings (e.g., state government agencies, state-level networks, extension departments) who provide farm to school expertise for organizations and individuals at the community level.
Project Goal
Help people in government agencies and non-profits have the farm to school knowledge and skills to support schools, childcare organizations, and producers.
Activities
NFSN will create training materials and other resources, tailored to staff from a variety of organizations. NFSN will provide the training to two groups of 25-50 participants, one in 2024 and one in 2025.
Key Milestones
- April 2024: Convene advisory group, who will audit farm to school onboarding resources and develop a plan for new resources.
- Spring/Summer 2024: Film and edit virtual field trip.
- Summer 2024: Launch the recruitment process and select participants for cohort 1 of Fundamentals training.
- October 2024: Debut virtual field trip film at NFSN’s Movement Meeting.
- Fall 2024 - Spring 2025: Conduct cohort 1 training sessions, including an in-person session at NFSN’s National Farm to Cafeteria Conference in spring 2025.
- Summer 2025: Evaluate and audit cohort 1 and training process and begin recruitment for cohort 2.
