SUN Programs: Shareable Materials

Nearly 30 million children participate in USDA’s school breakfast and lunch programs on an average school day. When school is out for summer, kids lose access to these healthy meals. This puts them at higher risk of hunger and makes it harder for them to get the nutrition they need to learn and grow.

USDA now has more flexible strategies for providing kids with food and nutrition support so they can thrive in the summertime and beyond. We’re calling these enhanced offerings SUN Programs: USDA’s Summer Nutrition Programs for Kids and promoting them with the “More Summer Smiles” campaign.

Everyone has a role to play in getting the word out about these programs – download customizable materials to promote SUN programs and spread more summer smiles. Digital, brand and print materials are available in English, Spanish, and additional languages.

Summary

About the Campaign

USDA is working hard to ensure all eligible families know about the new, convenient ways they can get summer nutrition support for their kids. We’re investing in outreach and partnering with stakeholders across the country to get the word out. A key component of our outreach efforts is the “More Summer Smiles” public awareness campaign.

USDA’s “More Summer Smiles” campaign captures what SUN programs are all about: more choices, more convenience, better nutrition — and more smiles for the kids we love. USDA created this campaign based on consumer and stakeholder testing to ensure it is relevant, appealing, and easy to understand.

Campaign Goals

  • Publicly launch the new SUN programs brand to generate widespread awareness and create excitement.
  • Educate and motivate families to maximize the use of all SUN programs available to their children.
  • Support stakeholders to engage their communities at the regional, state, and local levels.

Get Involved

Everyone has a role to play in helping kids get the nutrition they need to reach their full potential. No action is too big or small to promote SUN programs and spread more summer smiles. Examples of ways to use the customizable campaign materials include:
