Improving Access and Parity in CSFP

In October 2024, we published a final rule that updates CSFP regulations to increase access to the program and to increase parity within it. Most of the changes take effect within 60 days of the rule’s publication, on Dec. 30, 2024.

Overview

Reaching more seniors in need

Maximum income eligibility guidelines are now 150% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, an increase from 130%.

Simplifying eligibility procedures

State agencies now have an option to make participants income eligible for CSFP through other federal or state programs – like SNAP.

Increasing transparency

Local agency information will now be available on a public webpage. State agencies will also need to post a copy of their CSFP state plan online.

Streamlining home delivery services

State agencies now have more flexibility in how they check the identity of participants or proxies before distributing CSFP food packages.

Connecting seniors to other nutrition programs

Local agencies are now required to share information about the Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program with CSFP participants.
