Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
- On Jan. 20, 2023, FNS approved the Alabama Department of Human Resources request to amend the 10-day reporting requirement waiver for replacement of food purchased with SNAP benefits that was lost as a result of power outages due to severe storms and tornadoes that began on Jan. 12, 2023. The initial waiver approved on Jan. 19, 2023, applied to the six counties of Autauga, Chambers, Coosa, Dallas, Elmore and Tallapoosa. This amended waiver includes Hale County. The wavier is in effect through Feb. 2, 2023.

- On Sept. 2, 2021, FNS approved the Alabama Department of Human Services request to waive timely reporting of food loss for households in 27 counties. The waiver request applies to the following counties: Baldwin, Bibb, Choctaw, Clarke, Colbert, Conecuh, Dallas, Escambia, Fayette, Franklin, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Marengo, Marion, Mobile, Monroe, Perry, Pickens, Sumter, Tuscaloosa, Walker, Washington, Wilcox and Winston. This waiver approval allows impacted households to make a request for replacement of SNAP benefits for food purchased with SNAP benefits that was lost as a result of power outages and related impacts of Hurricane Ida that began on Aug 30, 2021. The waiver will be in effect through Sept. 20, 2021.
Incident: Tropical Storm Claudette

- On June 24, 2021, FNS approved Alabama’s request to waive timely reporting of food loss for households in eight counties as a result of Tropical Storm Claudette and power outages that began on June 18, 2021. This waiver approval allows impacted households to make a request for replacement of SNAP benefits through July 12, 2021.

- On Feb. 4, 2021, FNS approved Alabama’s request to waive timely reporting of food loss for households in the cities of Birmingham, Center Point and Fultondale in Jefferson County as a result of an EF-3 tornado on Jan. 26, 2021, that caused wind damage, power outages and road closures. This waiver approval allows affected households to make a request for replacement of SNAP benefits through Feb. 16, 2021.

Incident: Hurricane Zeta

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
- On Jan. 4, 2021, FNS approved Alabama’s request to operate D SNAP in seven counties in response to the impact of Hurricane Zeta that made landfall in Alabama on Oct. 28, 2020.
- On Nov. 13, 2020, FNS approved Alabama’s request to issue mass replacements to impacted households. This waiver approval allows households to receive replacement of 40% of October SNAP benefits for 20 counties; and 40% of October D-SNAP benefits for Mobile County as a result of Hurricane Zeta and power outages that began on Oct. 28, 2020.
- On Nov. 10, 2020, FNS approved Alabama’s request to waive timely reporting of food loss for households in 49 counties. This waiver allows households to make a request for replacement of SNAP benefits through Nov. 20, 2020, as a result of Hurricane Zeta and power outages that began on Oct. 28, 2020.
Incident: Hurricane Sally

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
- On Sept. 30, 2020, FNS approved Alabama’s request to operate D-SNAP in 3 counties (Baldwin, Escambia and Mobile) in response to the impact of Hurricane Sally that made landfall on Sept. 14, 2020. For Baldwin and Escambia County, the application period will begin no earlier than Oct. 5, 2020, and continue through October 9. For Mobile County, the application period will begin no earlier than October 13 and continue through October 16 and then resume for a final day on October 19.
- On Sept. 24, 2020, FNS approved Alabama’s Automated Mass Replacement waiver request to issue 50% of benefits to households in three counties for SNAP benefits issued from Sept. 1-16, 2020; and 30% of Emergency Allotments issued on Aug. 31, 2020, in response to Hurricane Sally that made landfall on Sept. 16, 2020.

- On Oct. 24, 2018, FNS issued a disaster approval for Dothan City School District. Schools in Dothan City School District are permitted to serve meals that do not meet the school lunch and breakfast program meal pattern requirements, effective October 22 through November 9.
