FNS is allowing states to waive the requirement that Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) foods may only be provided to students during non-congregate meal services due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Under current requirements, program operators must provide FFVP foods directly to students.
Effective immediately, this waiver allows state agencies to approve participating school food authorities to distribute FFVP foods to a parent or guardian to take home to their children during an unanticipated school closure due to the novel coronavirus.
FNS is allowing parents/guardians to pick-up FFVP foods and bring them home to their children through June 30, 2021.
Under current requirements, program operators may offer Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) foods only in elementary schools. This waiver enables states to allow approved school food authorities to offer FFVP foods from elementary schools closed due to COVID-19 at SSO and SFSP sites operating during school closures associated with COVID-19.
The waiver is effective through June 30, 2020, or upon expiration of the federally declared public health emergency, whichever is earlier.
