When: May 25, 2024

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

On June 4, 2024, FNS approved the Missouri Department of Social Services (DSS), request to waive the 10-day reporting requirement for food purchased with SNAP benefits that was lost as a result of power outages due to storms that began on May 25, 2024. The waiver applies to Barry, Bollinger, Butler, Carter, New Madrid, Ripley, Scott and Stoddard counties. The waiver is in effect through June 27, 2024.

When: May 8, 2024

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

On June 6, 2024, FNS approved the Missouri Department of Social Services (DSS), request to waive the 10-day reporting requirement for food purchased with SNAP benefits that was lost as a result of power outages due to a tornado that occurred on May 8, 2024. The waiver applies to the cities of Annapolis and Ironton. The waiver is in effect through June 7, 2024.

When: Aug. 4, 2023

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

On Aug. 18, 2023, FNS approved the Missouri Department of Social Services (DSS) request to issue mass replacements to impacted households. This waiver approval allows households to receive replacement of benefits as stated in the approval due to power outages as a result of the Baring tornado that began Aug. 4, 2023. The waiver approval applies to zip code 63531 in Knox County.

When: July 4, 2023

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

On July 21, 2023, FNS approved the Missouri Department of Social Services, Family Support Division (FSD) request to waive the 10-day reporting requirement for food purchased with SNAP benefits that was lost as a result of power outages due to severe storms and strong winds that occurred on July 4, 2023. This waiver applies to Jackson and Johnson counties and is in effect through Aug. 4, 2023.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

On July 21, 2023, FNS approved the Missouri Department of Social Services, Family Support Division (FSD) request to waive the 10-day reporting requirement for food purchased with SNAP benefits that was lost as a result of power outages due to severe storms and strong winds that occurred on June 30, 2023 - July 1, 2023. This waiver applies to St. Louis City and St. Louis County and is in effect through July 31, 2023.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

On April 11, 2023, FNS approved the Missouri Department of Social Services, Family Support Division (FSD) request to waive the 10-day reporting requirement for replacement of food purchased with SNAP benefits that was lost as a result of power outages due to a tornado that occurred on April 5, 2023. The waiver request applies to Bollinger County. The waiver is in effect through May 5, 2023.

  • On Aug. 18, 2022, FNS approved the Missouri Department of Social Services’ request to waive the 10-day reporting requirement for replacement of food purchased with SNAP benefits that was lost as a result of power outages and flooding that began on July 25, 2022. The waiver applies to Montgomery County and is in effect through Aug. 24, 2022.
  • On July 29, 2022, FNS approved the Missouri Department of Social Services’ request to waive the 10-day reporting requirement for replacement of food purchased with SNAP benefits that was lost as a result of power outages and flooding that occurred on July 25, 2022. The waiver applies to St. Charles County, St. Louis County, and St. Louis City and is in effect through Aug. 24, 2022.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program

On Dec. 20, 2021, FNS approved the Missouri Department of Social Services request to waive the 10-day reporting requirement for replacement of food purchased with SNAP benefits that was lost as a result of power outages, tornadoes and severe storms that began on Dec. 10, 2021. The waiver applies to Dunklin, Pemiscot and St. Charles counties. The waiver is in effect through Jan. 12, 2022.

Power Outages from Flooding and Tornadoes

Began May 22, 2019

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program

On May 24, 2019, FNS approved the Missouri Department of Social Services’ request to waive timely reporting of food loss for households in Missouri. This waiver approval will allow affected households throughout the state to make a request for replacement of SNAP benefits through June 24, 2019. These replacement SNAP benefits will allow households to replace food lost due to power outages from statewide flooding, tornadoes, and severe weather that began on May 22, 2019.

On March 28, 2019, FNS approved Missouri’s request to waive the 10-day reporting requirement for replacement of food purchased with SNAP benefits that was destroyed due to power outages and flooding. The approval applies to Buchanan County. Impacted SNAP households in the county will have until April 22, 2019, to report their loss of food to their local SNAP office and request replacement benefits. Replacements will be authorized for the amount of the loss, not to exceed the monthly allotment for the household.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program
USDA Foods

Red Cross, in collaboration with Jefferson City Public Schools, has set up a congregate feeding site at the Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Jefferson City to feed those impacted by the tornado. USDA Foods are being used under the supervision of the district’s food service director.
