SUBJECT: Food Distribution Program: Value of Donated Foods From July 1, 2006 through June 30, 2007; Correction
TO: Regional Directors
Special Nutrition Programs
All Regions
Financial Management Directors
State Agencies
Child Nutrition Programs
All States

Please note that on May 14, 2007, Food and Nutrition Service issued the attached Federal Register notice announcing a correction in the national average value of donated foods or, where applicable, cash in lieu of donated foods for school year 2007, which began on July 1, 2006 and runs through June 30, 2007.

An error was noted in the announced national average value of donated foods. The correct value is 17.00 cents. The correct per-meal value of donated food assistance has already been provided to schools and institutions. The correct per-meal value of cash or commodity letter of credit in lieu of such assistance will be provided to schools participating in CASH/CLOC sites in the near future.

The correct per meal value of cash in lieu of donated food assistance will also be provided to the state of Kansas for lunches served by schools participating in NSLP in that state, and to the appropriate states for lunches and suppers served by institutions in CACFP. We plan on providing the correct per meal value by making corresponding adjustments to previously submitted school year 2007 claims through the respective USDA/FNS regional offices.

State agencies should contact their regional office financial management staff with any questions.

STANLEY C. GARNETT
Director
Child Nutrition Division
