Foster Care Letter

The Departments of Agriculture, Education and Health and Human Services issued a tri-agency letter outlining the categorical eligibility of children and youth in foster care for free school meals. The letter also addresses meals for other children in the household, transferring eligibility when a foster child or youth moves, and the benefits of the Community Eligibility Provision. Attached to the letter is a template that schools may use to notify parents that a foster child or youth in their care is eligible for free school meals.
