In honor of the 30th Anniversary of SNAP-Ed, Western Regional Administrator, Jesus Mendoza, Jr., and I attended Rosemary Elementary School in Campbell, CA. The local SNAP-Ed team – which is officially referred to as CalFresh Healthy Living – led a presentation on nutrition education and discussed the importance of every kid eating well-balanced meals.
After this presentation, each student in attendance was encouraged to taste the fruit of the month (blueberries) and rank it on whether they loved it, liked it, or “not today.” I was pleasantly surprised that most kids said they loved it!
These types of activities demonstrate the importance of the SNAP-Ed program while providing students with practical ways to eat healthy foods. For more information on SNAP-Ed effectiveness, please see the timeline (PDF, 749 KB).
“It was nice to get out and see first-hand children learning about healthy food,” said Western Regional Administrator Jesus Mendoza, Jr. “The children enjoyed the taste test, and many came back for seconds.”
