How to Apply
Check Eligibility
You can use the convenient Eligibility Tool to check whether you or children in your care are likely to be eligible for WIC.
Start the Application Process
You will need to get in touch with a WIC agency in your area to start the application process by phone or online. They will work with you to schedule an in-person or virtual appointment to complete the process.
Meet with the WIC Staff
Before your appointment, your local WIC office will let you know what information or documents to have available. During your appointment, you'll meet with friendly, trained staff. They’ll answer any questions you have about healthy eating, breastfeeding and other support that could improve your family’s overall well-being.
What to Expect When You Join the WIC Family
If you or children in your care are eligible, you’ll receive benefits and other support from your local WIC office. During your first WIC appointment, caring staff will tell you all about WIC. You’ll learn how it works and what benefits are available to your family.
Get Ready for Your First WIC Appointment
Before your appointment, local WIC office will tell you who and what you’ll need to have with you. This may include:
- Each person who will be enrolling in WIC, including babies and kids under 5 years old.
- Identification such as a driver’s license or state ID, passport, birth certificate, employer or school ID, health benefits card, or crib card for each person who will be enrolling in WIC.
- Proof of address such as a recent bill that verifies your current address (since you must enroll through a WIC office in your area).
- Documentation of one of the following:
- Enrollment in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Medicaid or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).
- Proof of income such as recent paychecks, your latest tax return, or a letter/note from your employer.
