Dr. Tameka Owens
Acting Administrator and Assistant Administrator
Dr. Tameka Owens is the Assistant Administrator for the USDA Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) and has been serving as Acting Administrator of the agency since July 2024. In her senior executive career role as Assistant Administrator, Dr. Owens oversees overall operations and organizational health of the agency in support of its mission. Prior to her current position, Dr. Owens served in various FNS roles, including as Chief Operating Officer, Associate Administrator, and Director of the Office of Strategic Initiatives.
Dr. Owens earned a Ph.D. in public policy from Saint Louis University, a master’s degree from The Ohio State University, and a bachelor’s degree from Hampton University.
