FNS today announced $1.1 million in grants to four Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children state agencies in Arizona, Arkansas, South Dakota and Texas. 

Acting FNCS Deputy Under Secretary Brandon Lipps today highlighted the vital work FNS has done this year to provide food assistance to the millions of Americans impacted by unprecedented hurricanes and wildfires, as well as the numerous actions FNCS has taken to promote self-sufficiency, integrity, and customer service within federal nutrition programs.

Today, FNS issued national program guidance that gives SNAP state operators new flexibility to make their operations more efficient while improving customer service.

USDA has cleared the state of Arizona to test a program aimed at limiting fraud and reducing illegal trafficking in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program electronic benefit (EBT) cards. 

Schools reopening in hurricane-stricken areas of Texas will be allowed to provide meals through the National School Lunch Program to all students free of charge through Sept. 30.  USDA has also granted these schools flexibilities with regard to what they serve and when they serve it, making it easier for them to feed students in hurricane-affected areas. 

Texans recovering from Hurricane Harvey could be eligible for disaster food benefits from the USDA’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program through the availability of Disaster SNAP.

Families affected by Hurricane Harvey will soon be able to receive food packages containing nutritious, high-quality foods--100 percent grown and produced on farms in the U.S.

FNS has issued special procedures that give all states flexibility in providing expedited SNAP benefits to families who have evacuated their homes and moved outside the state of Texas as a result of Hurricane Harvey.

Families participating in USDA’s WIC program  in hurricane-stricken Texas will have an easier time finding WIC-approved foods for mothers and their children thanks to food-package flexibilities approved Sunday by USDA.

FNS and the Texas Health and Human Services Commission today announced a number of immediate actions as well as long-term plans for ensuring Texans affected by Hurricane Harvey have access to food through SNAP and the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
