This interactive webinar series highlights resources and materials that address hot topics in school meals. FNS regional offices, state agencies, school food authorities (SFAs) and others who may be interested are invited to participate.

Meal Talk: Reducing Added Sugars in School Meals

On Sept. 12, 2024, this webinar highlighted strategies to reduce added sugars to meet the Final Rule: "Child Nutrition Programs Meal Patterns Consistent with the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans.” Healthy Meals Incentives Breakfast Trailblazer Awardees from Thorton Fractional High School District in Lansing, Illinois, and Newman Crows Landing Unified School District in Newman, California, shared innovative ideas and best practices in reducing added sugars and engaging students in menu planning. Participants learned about USDA’s Team Nutrition resources and the Healthy Meals Incentive Recognition Awards.

This webinar counts toward USDA Professional Standards for School Nutrition Programs, Key Area 1000: Nutrition and Key Topics 1100: Menu Planning.

Meal Talk: Celebrate Lunch Trays Many Ways

Held during National School Lunch Week, this webinar highlighted the many ways to offer school lunch with inspiration from across the country. Speakers from the Arizona Department of Education and Bellingham Public School, Washington shared strategies and success stories utilizing standardized recipes that incorporated cultural food preferences and locally grown foods. Information was shared about USDA’s Team Nutrition resources and the Healthy Meals Incentive Recognition Awards.

This webinar counts toward USDA Professional Standards for School Nutrition Programs, Key Area 1000: Nutrition and Key Topics 1100: Menu Planning. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Commission on Dietetic Registration approved this webinar for 1.0 hour of Continuing Professional Education Units (CPEUs).

Meal Talk: Taste-Test Events

In honor of National School Lunch Week on Oct. 12, 2022, USDA’s Team Nutrition initiative held a Meal Talk webinar on Taste-Test Events.

Team Nutrition staff and guest speakers from the Pennridge School District in Pennsylvania and Kern County Superintendent of Schools in California shared tools, tips, strategies, success stories and best practices related to hosting taste-test events with elementary and secondary school students.

This webinar may count toward USDA Professional Standards for School Nutrition Programs, Key Area 4000: Communications and Marketing and Key Topic 4130: Customer Service. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Commission on Dietetic Registration has also approved this webinar for 1.0 hours of Continuing Professional Education Units (CPEUs).

Meal Talk: Local School Wellness Policies

Team Nutrition staff and guest speakers from South Carolina’s Local Wellness Policy State Technical Assistance Team and Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education shared how to energize, strengthen, and assess local school wellness policies. This webinar presented new ideas for increasing engagement and excitement about school wellness in their communities, including among administrators, teachers, parents, students and more.

This webinar may count toward USDA Professional Standards for School Nutrition Programs, Key Area 4000: Communications and Marketing and Key Topics 4100: Communications and Marketing. Certificates of participation will be provided for those who attend the entire webinar. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Commission on Dietetic Registration has also approved this webinar for 1.0 hours of Continuing Professional Education Units (CPEUs).
