WIC Coverage Rates by State, 2020, All Participant Categories

Sources: 2021 Current Population Survey Annual Social and Economic Supplement (CPS-ASEC), 2020 American Community Survey (ACS), 2016-2019 Puerto Rico Community Survey (PRCS), Census International Data Base, and WIC administrative data.
Note: This figure displays statistically significant differences between the state coverage rate and the national coverage rate at the 95-percent confidence level. Statistically significant differences are represented by an up or down arrow in the graphic. The statistical significance testing was conducted based on the CPS-ASEC and PRCS data. The estimated coverage rate exceeds 100 percent for infants in the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. This is likely a result of sampling variability in the survey data. The lower bound of the 95-percent confidence intervals surrounding these rates is below 100 percent. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 PRCS was not released. The 2020 estimates for Puerto Rico use the 2019 PRCS. WIC participation and eligibility data for Indian Tribal Organizations (ITO) are included in the data for the State where the ITO is located.
Definitions: "Women" includes pregnant, postpartum non-breastfeeding, and postpartum breastfeeding women. “Number eligible” and “number of participants” numbers are rounded to the nearest hundred in the figure.
